THE ANNUAL REPORT
The annual meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club wiii be held on Monday nigho next} when tlie following report will be read on behalf of the Committee : . "Your Committee have pleasure in presenting the. annual statement of accounts lor the past year. "You will' notice that the position of the Club hasrbeen considerably improved. ''We have made arrangements for the greater portion «of our debentures to be taken up at 6£ per cent., thus saving i£ per cent., which is good business considering the many calls for money at present. "The stakes were increased by eight hundred pounds, and we hope to still further increase them this year. "During the year the course was considerably improved at the 'iurlong post; the bend has been done away with, with the result that horses have a straight run for fully a quarter of a mile. "Arrangements have been made for installing a starting barrier, similar to the one in use at Riccarton. "The lawn was raised during the year, thus affording a much better view of the races. "It is anticipated to siill further improve the lawn and appointments to the ladies' rooms. "During the year the Club suffered a, great loss by the death, of Mr. M. H.WHUII, our President for many years. Members recognise what Mr. Ilann.-n has clone for the Club. No one could
have taken a greater interest in the Club and we deeply sympathise with Mrs. Hannan and family."
