THE STATE MINERS

TRAIN FACILITIES.

THE DEADLOCK

CONFERENCE TO-NIGHT.

The men working the State Mine have now been out a week and so far as' was ascertained to-day there does not seem to be any likelihood of their being able to return on Monday even if a satisfactory solution of the difficulties is found to-night when the Union representatives meet the general manager of the State Mine who will arrive by the Otira express this evening. The" Union officials explain that it will be very difficult to get in touch with all the men in time to start work on Monday.

The men held a meeting this mornins? when the position of affairs as they stand at present was fully explained. A time-table satiable to both the railway officials and the men. but as was intimated in the Douse of Representatives, this apparently does not fall in with the Mines Department in Wellington. The men adhere to their decision not to agree to any alteration which would mean an earlier starting of the train in the morning or a later departure in the evening than that suggested. Another meeting lias been called by the Union for to-morrow when tin result of the conference will be placed before the men. They insist that the train should not leave earlier than 6.35 a.m. and not later than 4.40 p.m.
