DENTAL ASSOCIATION
WEST COAST BRANCH,
A meeting of the West Coast Branch of the New Zealand Dental Association was held on Friday night. The President, Mr. H. M. Coulson (Hokitika; was in the chair, all members being present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman made feeling mice to the bereavement one of the members had sustained in the loss of his father, the late Dr. Mcßrearty. He referred to the long active and energetic life of the deceased Doctor, not only in the noblest of professions but also as a citizen. He was a devoted husband, and a good father and the community was the poorer for his passing. A resolution of condolence with the relatives by Mr. Richmond, who tif erred to the late Doctor s neverfailing generosity, was carried in silence, the members standing. Outward correspondence was approved and inward correspondence dealt with. A number of accounts were passed for payment. Mr. W. Reynolds moved that a letter of congratulation be sent to Mr. R. W. Bell, a West Coaster, on his appointment to the high position of Associate Professor of Dentistry at the Dental College in Dunedin.—• Seconded by Mr. D. Mcßrearty and carried. , , . . Mr. F. 11. Field, of Philadelphia, U.S.A.. representing the S.S. White Dental Manufacturing Coy., then gave a most interesting and instructive lecture and practical demonstration of the usage of cement alloys and vulcanite working. Mr. Field w\io has served for many years in the greatest dental laboratories in America is thoroughly master of his subject, and although he spoke for four hours at the usual Amer’can pace, his hearers, who, besides the members of the branch included representatives of the New Zealand Consolidated Dental Coy and Kempthorne Prossers, New Zealand Drug Coy., only felt they nad not heard half enough. Mr. ,£oulson moved a very hearty vote oFlhariks to Mr. Field for his most interesting and instructive lecture and demonstration, and said those present would be most ungrateful if they neglected to mark their appreciation of the volume of enlightenment imparted by the lecturer during the evening.—Seconded by Mr. Richmond and carried by acclamation.
