PERSONAL NOTES

Mr. Tjers, who was well known as a Government auditor on the Coast, left by the Otira express this morning.

Mr. C. C. Biernacki, solicitor, of Auckland, who accompanied Mr. H. C. Smart on a business tour of the Dominion, returned en route to Auckland by to-day’s Otira. express.

Mrs. and Miss Lynch left for Christchurch where they will 1 remain for about a fortnight, by the express this morning.

The many friends throughout the district of Mr. E. A. Wickes, will regret to learn that his condition is ..busing his family great alarm.

We regret to learn that the health of Mr. A. A. Adams, who has again been confined to his home for several weeks, shows no sign of improvement.

Mr. and Mrs. F. Kilgour left en route for Palmerston North by the express this morning. A number of relatives and friends assembled at the station to bid them goodbye.

Mi 1 , and Mrs. C. W. Cooke left by the express this morning for Christchurch, their future home. A large circle of friends farewelled them at the railway station.

At the Anglican Sunday School, Cobdeii, on Sunday, Miss Eva Cressey, a member of the teaching staff, was presented by the teachers and scholars with an ivory prayer book, on the occasion of her birthday.

Nurse D. Strongman, who received her training at the Greymouth Hospital, has been appointed a Sister in Nelson Hospital. Nurse Strongman takes up her duties in September and is to be heartily congratulated upon her appointment.

Mr. Percy Bond of the ‘'Colonist” proprietorship was accorded a civic farewell last evening by a large gathering of representative citizens. Eulogistic references were made to Mr. Bond’s citizenship and good work for the advancement of the district. — Association message.

A very painful accident happened to Mrs. Wells senr., (mother of Air. E. Wells, of Woodstock) yesterday morning, writes our Hokitika correspondent. She was standing near the range when an explosion occurred in the coal that was burning. Mrs. Wells was startled and fell over, breaking her left thigh. Surgical aid was summoned, and Mrs. Wills was afterwards removed to the Westland Hospital.
