REEFTON NOTES

FOREIGN MISSION

On Thursday evening last a veiv en joyable social was held in Wesley Church Schoolroom in aid of the Foreign Mission effort. There were a good number present, and a good programme was presented. The Rev Mr. Pickering occupied the chair, and in his opening remarks dealt with the objects and efforts of the Foreign Mission Society. Vocal solos were rendered by Misses Knight, Robinson, Harvey and Mr. Knight, which were much enjoyed. A piano duet by JYli-rses Knight and Harris, and a dialogue by Miss Lane, Messrs Mason and Years'..l (2), were much appreciated. A compre tition on the subject of "Foreign IWis sions" called forth several good poetical effusions, the prize going to Miss Adams. A very fine gymnastic c*splay by Messrs Seymour, Absalom, Lawry, and King was a most interesting item, and claimed the onlookers' attention from first to last, and was certainly an eye opener to those present, and reflected much credit on Mr. Seymour, the instructor. Mr. Rouse's orchestra contributed two excellent items, and very kindly resr.onueu'fD a very enthusiastic encore. The fupper provided b.-tho ladies was much appreciated. A vote'of thanks to the promoters and performers with the National Anthem and Eenediciim brought a most enjoyable function to a close. MOTOR FATALITY. The funeral of the young son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Stowe, who was accidentally killed by a motor car en Friday lasr, took place on Sunday afternoon' and was very largely attended. The little casket was carried from the parents' resklence to St. Stephens Church by the rlaymates (f deceased, whilst a good muster of school children. also followed with their teachers. A Irrge' number of members of the Reefton F ; ve Brigade also rttended, Mr. Stowe being a prominent member. The services at the church and at the graw side were most impressively conducted by the Rev. Mr. Milgrew. There were several very handsome wreaths and floral emblems sent by friends, and the sympathv of the whole community goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Stowe in their verv sad loss; tiie accident casting quite a gloom over the community.
