MINERS' UNION

AT BLACKBALL

GENERAL MEETING

A general meeting of the above union was held in Mettrick's Hall on*March 28th, the President, Mr J. McQuilken, being* in the chair. Tiie meeting', which was well attended, discussed business in connection with the report of the delegates to Australia, also local business in connection with the Miners' Hall, an important circular from the Federation Secretary, and the usual batch of grievances in connection with and arising out of the contract system.

Nominations were called for the position' of National. President, Vice-President, , Secretary-Trea-surer, Australian delegates, and District Executive member. For the first three positions those proposed declined nomination. Mr W. Balderstone accepted nomination for Executive member.

It was the general opinion of ihe meeting that whoever is elected as National President should act as Australian delegate. Messrs Quilken and Balderstone gave a report of a special District Council meeting, which was colled to deal with the position existing at Roa. The action taken by the Council was endorsed.

. In consequence of the Blackball Company's refusal io employ competent local miners ("married men with homes in the locality), the Secretary was instructed to advertise, advising nil workers to remain awav from Blackball until further notice.
