Mr. Justice Herdman with his son and daughter left Greymouth for Christchurch yesterday morning. Mr. I. A. A London Press cable announces the death of Charles Allen Wray, New Zealand Magistrate, at Bournemouth. ' Mr. H. Davis, left, en route for Wanganui by Tuesday's express for a month's holiday. The friends of Mr. Innis, who is an inmate of the Grey River Hospital, will regret to learn that his condition shows no sign of improvement. It is announced that Mr .Page, S.M., has been appointed permanent Magistrate at Palmerston North.—Wellington Press message. Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M., left for Christchurch by this morning's express. We hope tho change and rest will be the means of renewing his health which lias not been good for some weeks past. Guard Swift, who has been transferred to. To Kir'ti, leaves for his new home on Monday next. This evening at eight o'clock ho will be given a presentation by his fellow guards in the Guards' Room. Latest enquiries elicited the information that Mr. A. Porter, who underwent an operation for appendicitis at the Grey River Hospital on Monday last, is progressing as satisfactorily as can Do expected. The Hen. J. G. Coates will take over the portfolio of Public Works from the Hon. Sir William Eraser to-day. Mo. will retain the pos'ticn of Postmaster General, but will hand over the Justice Department, as soon as possible, to the Hon. E. P. Leo.

Our Hokitika correspondent wires as follows: —I regret exceedingly to report the death of Douglas, eldest son of .Mr. and Mrs. A. B. King, of Hampden Street, Hokitika, which took place at Wellington' last night from pneumonic influenza. The lad would be sixteen on Sunday next, and had only been in Wellington seven weeks attending his first college, term. De was a bright and manly lad. whose passing will be a severe blow to the parents. They will have the sympathy of a host of friends. The lad was a native of Hokitika, Mr. King left for Wellington this morning before "Hie news of the lad's death was received.
