EXPLOITATION.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —On© is not in these times surprised at anything one reads m the correspondence columns of the press, which at times puts m uie shade the numerous “fablegrams” that are now fllashed arounc; tnu world. But really the effusion of J.S. of Runanga in your last issue is the “limit.” At a recent function in Christchurch Archbishop O’Shea deplored the fact that profiteering, immorality and epidemics of crime generally were on the increase, that the rich were robbing the poor in tho most barefaced manner. He asked for a recognition of Christian principles, and expressed the hope that it was not too late to go back to Christian education. Now., mark the sagacity of th e seer of Runanga. who states the “Archbishop means
bringing back the rule of Rome over the Governments of the world.” I feel quite nervous at the prospects of such a calamity. He goes on to say and here he shows his Christian love —save the mark —that many would prefer a Red revolution in pre ference to- taking the advice of a Christion Archbishop —that is, of course, of a Catholic Archbishop lour correspondent also asserts that the speech is significant and it should he duly noted by all non catholics and Governments not presently under the yoke. “Not yet,” mind that Mr. Editor, really 1 had no idea we were living on such a volcano, but, for some time past I have been uneasy, I felt that something was about to happen. Your correspondent seems to imagine that Catholics are the only Christians in the world—or are the only body who are anxious for a wider inculcation of the teach-
ings of the Ten Commandments, that great code of morality, which is practically the foundation of all Christian teaching. *No doubt all non-Catholios and especially the governments of the world, if one can now be found not under the yoke of Rome, will duly nte this timely wain ing. It is certain that it will ho duly recorded by the representatives of the Powers at the Peace Conference, and the necessary precautions will ho taken to counteract this, nefarious scheme which, despite all the precautions of Rome, has been unmasked by this far seeing genius of Runanga. Really, Sir, w 0 should all he profoundly thankful to your
correspondent for penetrating the sinister design. of Archbishop O’Shea. I had no idea that His Grace a Colonial by the way, practically a native of Hawera, was such a clever diplomat, or that he had been entrusted with such immense powers by Rome. But one never knows. One thing is cer-
tain, should he read the important disclosures of J.S. of Runanga, he will know that the game is up, and that he must change his tactics, for as the “Kerry Eagle” newspaper warned the late Czar of Russia that “it had its ©ye on him.” so His Grace will realise that the seer of Runanga has his eye on Archbishop O’Shea. Tours', etc.', anxious;
