Miss K. Dennehy, Timaru, and Miss Morrison, Barfield, who have been on a visit to tireymouth returned home this morning., We are sorry to state that Mr. W. W._ Snodgrass, Mayor of Nelson, is seriously ill, from the effects of influenza. Mrs. Lowe and her son Jack, who have been on a holiday in the North Island will return by the Otira ex- , press this evening. Miss Cornwall and Miss Hopkins, formerly of the staff of the Grey District High school, left this morning for Christchurch where they will enter the training Mr. W. Meale, who is taking up his residence in Australia, left by the Reefton train this morning for Westport and Nelson. He was farewelkd by a number of his personal friends.

Mr. John Massey, a brother of the Prime Minister, has been appointed President of Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Mr. W. G. Robb, delegate from the Greymouth Loco. Captain Rhodes, military secretary to the Governor-General will arrive by the Otira .express this evening in order to arrange with the various local authorities in regard to the forthcoming visit of the Prince of'Wales. He leaves to-morrow morning for Westport on similar business. Mr. J. Lowden, of the Labour Department is at present on annual leave arid is spending a holiday in Christchurch and Dunedin. His place is being filled in the meantime by Mr. Wil-son,-of the head office in Wellington. Mr. Lowden has been appointed inspector of weights and measures for tho Westland district. The many friends of Mother De Pazzi and Mother Thersa of the local Convent, will learn with regret that they have been advised of the death of their brother Air. Alichael O’Connor, which took place recently at San Francisco. The deceased gentleman left an only daughter about 20 years 'of age, his wife having predeceased him "by several years.

General Bramwell Booth, of the Salvation Army, will not arrive in New Zealand until about the middle of .Tune. He was originally expected about April 17, travelling to Australasia via the United States. The influenza epidemic in the States, with the dislocation of the world’s shipning, has caused him to alter his plans, and the General will now come out via Suez.

A number of fire brigadesmen left Greymouth by the Otira express this morning en route for Hastings where they will attend the (annual conference of the Fire Brigades’ Association. The names of the local representatives were: Foreman A. White, Secretary, J. G. Walton, (a former president of the Association) representing Greymouth ; Fireman R. Fane (Hokitika) and Fireman G. Shanks (Cobden).
