NEW YOliK,- February 18. Mr. William Fox lias announced that Carpentier has accepted his offer. Mr Slieehan (Mr. Fox's representative) will shortly sail for Paris to complete arrangements with Uavpentier, and probably will bring the latter to iN'ew YorK.
A recent message stated that Mr. William Fox, the cinema producer, cabled to Descamps, offering Carpentier either a guarantee of 2bU,OCO dollars to meet Dempsey, or a combined purse of 500,000 dollars, of which the winner would get 75 per cent, and 35 per cent, of the net profits, the American, French, Australian, Canadian, and English Red Cross receiving 50 per cent, oi the profits.
(By "Looker-on.") Nominations for the Blackball tourney close on Wednesday. Judging by present indications a big crowd of Greymouth fans will visit the coal-mining town on Friday night-next. "Bob Emerald" "has had to decline an offer of a match at Westport, being unable to get the necessary leave. Bob is in great form tp take on Long at Blackball on Friday. Five others lads from the same training school as "Emerald" will be making their debut at the Blackball tourney,- and I expect to see several of the medals coming their way. Jo' G irvey informs me that he has an offer of a match with Kortegast at Westport, while the Greymouth Association arc also negotiating for a match for Garvev on the same night as the Cook—O'Neill bout. Mr. Grogan informs me that his Association are negotiating with a wellknown Australian boxer to meet the winner of the Cook—O'Neill championship match, which will be fought here about, Easter. It is reported that the Cook —O'Dea match at. Westport is off, for the present at anvrate !
