GREY PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

:. WEEKLY MEETING. ..The weekly meeting- of the Gi'eymouth Patriotic Association, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs J. D. Lynch, (charimanjT, D. Tennent, D. McKay, K. Skogl'und, G. A. Blackwood,' P. Mackenzie, and E, A. Wickes. The Chairman apologised for the absence' of Messrs King and McLean. The Chairman mo"ved that a letter of condolence be sent to Mr J McLean in connection with his recent bereavement. Prom Secretary of Copper Trail informing the Association that the second prize in the . regent art union had not been claimed, and as the Copper Trail Committee has

disbanded he asked the Patriotic Association to keep the prize (gold nuggets) in custody.—Received. It was decided to place the nuggets in the bank. On the motion of. Mr McKay, seconded by Mr Blackwood, Mr A. Armstrong was appointed a member of the Association. CORRESPONDENCE. A telegram was received from the officer in charge of the War Funds office, stating that the present rules did not allow expenditure for a club, and asking for particulars regarding establishment and management of "club.— Received. The information had been supplied by the Secretary. Prom New Zealand Advisory Board, stating that ration allowance in future would be 4s a day. This should meet with the approval of the Grey Association.* — Rqceived. From Auckland Patriotic Association, informing the Grey AsioLaition' that two. cases of application for assistance were unsatisfactory, and that the responsible societies were in the first case an Australian society, a,nd in (he second case the Auckland Association. —Received. Prom the Westland Patriotic Fund, enclosing £5 for application by returned soldier.-t-Receiv T - From the Inangahua. Patriotic Association enclosing cheque for £b and asking the Grey Assoc: ation. to pay same to applicant. - Received. Prom the War Relief Association, Wellington, informing the Grey Association that an application for assistance should be made to the Reefton Association, and asking that no assistance should be given where the responsibility rested with another society.—Received. Prom the Canterbury Patriotic Pund, enclosing cheque for .'Jo, payment for application made. Prom the Taihape District Patriotic Association, enclosing a cheque for £b, and thanking the Grey Association for assistance. — Received. Prom the Auckland Patriotic Association, enclpsing- £2, payment for money expended on their behalf.—Received. Prom the Canterbury PatrioticFund, thanking tie Grey Association for assistance given and em closing cheque for £6, repayment of an application for assistance. — Received. Prom tlie Gisborne Patriotic Association, endorsing" the Grey Association's action in the payment of £2 to applicant, and authorising a further £5. —Received. From a returned soldier, giving terms on which he could repay a loan from the Grey Association. — Received. * Mr Wickes move'd that a loan of £SU be granted, the payments to ,be made at the rate of £6 10s as from April, to be repaid in 18 months. This was seconded by Mr Tennent and carried. From the Wellington Association asking for authority to grant £5 to a discharged soldier from this district. It was resolved that £5 be granted. Promt the Otago Soldiers' and Dependents' Welfare Committee, enclosing* final correspondence between it and the Minister of Defence with regard to a case of extreme hardship. Mr Tennent said that the Asso-. ciation should give the Otago Board every assistance in seeing the matter through. The sympathy of the- local M.lV's should be enlisted in seeing the matter through. Mr McKay seconded the motion. If the Government put through a man who was not fit the Government should stand the racket. There were similar cases here'. An application..was made by a returned soldier for £ls, to meet expenses in connection with domestic responsibilities. Mr Skoglund moved that £ls be granted. This was seconded by Mr Tennent and carried.' Mr Tennent 'moved that a mini-

mum grant of eight guineas be given in the event of -".the wife of a soldier being confined. The Secretary: What about twins ? Mr Tennent: They _will be considered on their merits. The motion was seconded by Mr Mackenzie and carried. Prom the Secretary of the Repatriation Department (Grey branch), regretting that it was unable to give any further assistance to a returned soldier.—Received. Prom the Southland War Funds Association forwaring an application for assistance, and stating their grant would be £6. Mr Tennent moved that £lO be granted. This was seconded by Mr McKay and carried.
