Classical dialogue, own selection. — Mioses Fanny Kutner and Doris Stevens ("Rose Dartle's Revenge"), 145 points (an excellent performance), 1; Messrs K. S. Dillon (well known in Greymouth) and F. Hargreaves (Greymouth), ("King Henry TV..,'.'. Scene 2, Act 3), 143 points, 2; Misses Frances M. A. Snell and Alexa Elton ("Rosalind and Orlando' 1 ), 137 points, 3. New Zealand Test Recitation (best In two tests), gentemen. —Recalls : K: S. Dillon (Wellington), "Hell Gate of Solssons" ; V. Evans (Lower Hutt), "Mani-' las to the Mob" ; F. Hargreaves, (Greyjmouth), "Rienzi to the Romans.'• Final: F. Hargreaves, 280 points. 1; V. .Evans. 279. 2: K. S. Dillon. 278. Mr Hargreaves wins the elocutionary champoinship and gold medal. Other awards announced were:—Story without words: "The Wife's Choice" (Mr F. Hargreaves, Greymouth. and Miss Flo Gowh 1; "A Dav at the Races" (Mr K. S. Dillon and Miss Lily Chapman, Greymouth. 2; "In a Railway Tram" (Mr L. Inch and Miss Alexa EitonK 3. In the character recital. Mr Vryn Evans donned' the sable of Hamlet, and delivered the famous soliloquy commencing "O, What a rogue and peasant slave am I." which he delivered with considerable intelligence. Mr F. Hargreaves (of GreyjwmtM, in a te'lm<r mn.ke-up as an agen d : psomaniac, recited "Now Year's Eve"' (by Robert with fine restraint and a sound realisation of what an alcoholic wreck on the "Slope" might bealtogether an admirrble bit of work, probably the best bit of dramatic character reciting in the Mr Joseph Green gave a new version of "The Italian and the Rose" (not so effective as th& original. His a<-r-ent and expression were very good indeed. It was a case of the reciter's talent being worthy of a better medium.
