OUR BOYS IN KHAKI.
— PRIVATE W. FOGARTY. Mr P. Fogarty, of Russell Street, Westport, received word on Saturday that his brother, Private W. Fogarty was ■ a prisoner of war at Parchem, Germany. He was wounded but no further particulars were available. WELCOME HOME. Another very successful gathering v>oit place in Barrytown on Saturday night, when the residents of the district assembled to welcome home one of their boys, Private Jack Wafer, who has been invalided home with the last draft. Despite the inclemency of the weather a good crowd of visitors arrived from Brighton, Cobden, Runnnga, and the outlying parts, and many pleasant hours were passed with dance and song. The music, which left nothing to be desired, was in the capable hands of Mr Langridge, assisted by Mr R. Lewis, while the duties of MC. were efficientlv carried out by Mr G. Stewart. During the intervals between the dances, songs were nicely rendered by Mrs Warren, Miss May Tracey (Ten-Mile), Messrs Lewis, Roe, Jenkins and Harrington. After supper, Mr G. Stewart, in a neat speech, expressed the pleasure they had that evening of 'welcoming home Private Jack Wafer’. He asked him to accept on behalf of the residents a case of pipes in recognition of the valuable services rendered by him during his two years service in France, and wished Private Wafer a speedy recovery to normal health. He especially wished to thank the ladies for providing the supper; those who tastefully decorated the hall, and all those who in any way contributed to the success of the evening. Private Wafer, on rising, was greeted with applause. He said words failed him to express his gratitude for the kindness shown him that evening, hut he was very much pleased to know that his small services were appreciated. Dancing was then resumed till the first rays of sunshine pierced the clouds in the eastern sky, and the singing of “For He's a, Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne” brought t 6 a close a very merry and joyous social. •
