THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1918. (Before Mr. J. E. Wilson, Warden.) (Our Correspondent.) Alexander R. Ay son (Mr. Phillips), two applications lor ooai prospecting leases, of 540 acres and lUu acres. respectively, situated in Block X., xioeiton 0.. u. —wanted. George toeott (Mr. Patterson), coal prospecting license, Block X-, Reefton &.U., area 500 acres.—Objected to by W. Irving (Mr. Phillips). The Minister's consent having been obtained subject to £SO per month being expended on the land and a bond of £2OO to be deposited with the Registrar for any damage. occurring to the property. Mr. Phillips stated that he liad only had time to glance through the tions of the bond. Warden: If the person observes the conditions the bond will be null and void, in his opinion the bond was in order. Mr. Patterson stated that the bond was similar to all bonds.
Warden to Mr. Phillips: The special conditions) mentioned in the bond are those that were agreed up"U. and are mostly for the protection of the objector. As soon as the bond is executed the grant will be made.
Sarah Morris (Mr. Patterson), application for a. coal prospecting li- < i." iso. situated in Block 1., Reefton S.D., area 300 acres. The- applicant being sworn, stated she -was a partner in the firm of W.J. "Morris and C<->. The declaration which had been filed in Court asi to her position was true.
Examined by the Warden: She proposed to enter into the business of coal prospecting, and had previously held a similar license, which was for a term of two years. It was not successful and was relinquished. She had spent £l2O in prospecting the lease during the period she held it; the rent was I-aid regularly. Warden: The Inspector of Mines does not recommend the granting of the application; he states that skilled labour will be required in working it. He was not prepared to loclc up leases for speculation [purposes. Mr. Patterson explained that the
lease was situated on the other side of the Inangahua River. So far no • o.d had been proved. There was no ln-idge across the river. He referred the Warden to the fact that on : ','veral occasions females had been

Warden: The Inspector of Mines is most explicit in his report, and in face of that he could not agree to grant the application.—Struck out. Carl Melbom, application for a. roal leas, Sections VI. and VII., Block__ls, Reefton S.D., area 9J acres.—Recommended to the Minister.
G. G. McAlpine (Mr. Phillips), ap■•b'mtion for (1) sawmill license, are\ 400 acres, situated in Blocks VIII., XII., and XIII., Inangahua S.D.; (2) reservation of timber area, ' 400 acres, Block XII., Inangahua ™ S.D.—Adjourned till 14th November, 1918.
Reefton Coal Co. (Mr. Patterson), application for a. tramway, situated in Block X., Reefton S.D. Mr. Phillips appeared on behalf of tht. Inangahua. County Council and Mr. W. Irving.
Mr. Patterson stated that the consent of the Inangahua, County Council had been obtained, the application was granted, subject to the special conditions.
George J. Willis (Mr. Lawry), application for six months' protection over a special quartz claim and an extended quartz claim, the "Cumberland."—Granted.
R. L. Kearns (Mr. Lawry), surrender of coal lease, No. 1162, situate Block 11., Waitahu S.D.—Recommended to the Minister.
J. Woodhouse (Mr. Phillips) application for a water race, 4 heads, to be diverted from applicant's dam in Courang Creek, Waiuta.—Granted J. Woodhouse (Mr. Phillips), application for a dam, situated at Courang Creek, Waiuta, 1 acre.— Granted.
J. MoMahon (Mr. Phillips), renewal of timber reservation, No. 2016, area 132 acres, situated at Larry's Creek. —Adjourned to 14th November, 1918, for applicant to appear.
R. Duffy (Mr. Lawry), application for a prospecting license of 100 acres, situated in Block VII., Reefton S.D.-—Granted.
