THE LIQUOR PROBLEM.
LABOUR PARTY’S PLATFORM
DISCUSSED BY ANGLICAN SYNOD

CHRISTCHURCH, October 16. At the Anglican Synod, Rev. J, R. Hewiand to-day moved:; —“That the Synod adopt the platform of the Labour Party on the liquor question on .the four points: (1) National continuance, (2) Immediate national prohibition with compensation, (3) Prohibition without compensation, and (4) National Ownership, those issues to be decided by preferential voting, with a singio transferable vote.” He also moved : “That the National Efficiency Board’s recommendation be adopted by the Synod.” Both motions wore taken together. In the discussion which followed, opinion leaned towards the Efficiency Board’s: recommendation, but the debate was not considered when the Synod adjourned. Bishi p Julius said he wanted prohihion, with or without compensation. If the country ready to give compensation, he would prefer it.
