THE CUMMING MISSION
Although ia&t nighi was wet mui dark, giving- a- strong iucdinatiou for ine people of Grey-mouth to stay indoors by the lire, the mission had its largest gathering since Sunday. The presence of ai minister and several members from a sister church was much appreciated by the missioned. The interest in the mission is deepening and spreading. Miss Perry was the organist last night, and all joined heartily in the singing. The speaker was in good form and gave a most inspiring address from Romans yi., 22. To-night’s programme ought to be a big draw towards the Presbyterian Church, as Mrs. Gumming will sing a special solo, over and above singing in the duet with her husband. "Fivelooks! at a little man” is the subject for to-night’s address. The lantern night has been postponed to Thursday, 24th October, in the Opera House. Full particulars of this entertainment will appear in a future advertisement. k (To the Edfltor.J Sir, —Just a few lines, maybe, to ask a question. A few weeks ago we were notified tbropgh the press that Barton’s Circus was coming; of course —£ s. d. Tbje wowser’s eye would lift to heaven in abhorrence at any decent person attending such a performance. As time passes on we find a new advent takes the place of Barton’s Circus, viz. : “Look, listen! The Cummiiligs from Scotland are singing and speaking every night? etc. Admission Is., children ficL” Now, Mr. Editor, please, who are the Cummings? What gear do they carry? How many are in the company? Who pay their expenses? Where do the profits go to? Who brought them out here from _ Scotland? Is Mr. Cummings eligible? Does he do anything else than sing, speak, and show lantern slides of Bonnv_Scotland? Would it not be more beneficial to the nation if he w-pvp to give his seiwices in some nart of the war stricken areas free of charge, than gather the stray hobs from the patriotic copper trailers of Grey for his own tea, bed and breakfast?. —I am. etc., STAR OBSERVER.
