BY-ELECTION.
WELLINGTON CENTRAL SEAS'. G OVERNMEN T CANDID AT)!;. (Per Press Association.; "WELLINGTON, September 15. Mr. VV. T. Hildretn is to be tne Government nominee for the Wellington Central seat. The choice was made, it is understood, mainJy by the Liberal Committee 01 the electorate, and the Reform, people have promised that they wJI do ureir .best to secure liis return. Air. Hildretli is the kind of man that the Reform people can .support without any great difficulty m these times. Id is certain, however, that the prohibitionists, probably in alliance with the Protest am Political Association, will bring out a candidate. That candidate may be Mr. M. J. Mack. The Labour nominees to go to the preliminary ballot of the Laoour organisation are Messrs John Read, Peter eraser, and M. J. Reardon. The only surprise on the list was the name of Mr. Reardon. He had previously refused to let his name go to the ballot, but to-day he decided to let his name stand. lie is a moderate among Labour men —always an opponent of the Red Fed. —"Maoriland Worker'' coterie—and his chances of getting tli9 nomination are slender. Mr. Fraser is almost sure to be the Labour candidate.
