AN M.P. IN PRISON.

A CONTINGENT RESIGNATION » ... ■' [By Electric Telegraph—Special to "Star:"J ' WELLINGTON, This Day.. A letter from Private Webb, member for Grey, dated from Rotorua Prison Tree-planting' Camp, has been published, in'di eating- his intention to resign, under certain contingencies. The letter states : 'Must a few lines to inform you that'l have posted my y resignation as M.P. for Grey to Jim. Scott. I have just written to George Hunter requesting Hint the party should call on" the "Win-the-War-Cry Party" to get at least.1(100 signatures to a petition, and 'the Labour Party will forward my resignation on to the Speaker. If they fail, send it along just when it is considered advisable. It is quite, certain that I can't represent awl look after the interests of the Grey electorate in this place. I am isolated here from all news. I intend writing to Mr Wilford to have me removed to some other prison. I would rather do my term in Lyttelton, where one is in touch with ihe outside world. I am only permitted to write one letter per week, but ran receive any number. Since arriving* here, I have been further convinced that prison reform is still a longway off. I hope to have something to say about it when I receive my discharge.

We are all in good health and spirits and more determined than ever to carry on the fight for socialism and freedom."

A deputation from various Labo'ur organisations asking for Private Webb's release will interview Mr Massey, Sir Joseph Ward and Sir James Allen on Friday. ,
