CLOSING OF THE WAR LOAN. TAXATION PROPOSED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Mr. Watt lias announced, that lie will extend the closing of the date ot the War Loan to the 24th. In tne House of xtepresentalives Mr. Watt introduced the Supply Bill, lie said that he proposed io submit early in the new rinancial year the Government's new taxation proposals. Mr. Cook, outlining tlie, policy, said. that the Government proposed to establish a. Bureau of Commerce and Industry in charge of a business man, who would act fy'ith ■* the representatives of the various industries. Defects in industrial machinery would be removed and provision made for enlisting for home defence persons- between the ages of 21 and 18, ineligible for service abroad. The Income Tax Bill would be amended, constituting the employer as collecting agent for tlie Department when the employee fails to pay, with power to deduct from the employees' wages. In the House of Representatives, Mr Cook, in introducing- a Supply Bill for.-£5,000,000, stated that the revenue for nine months was £1,291,000 below the estimate, hut the expenditure, was £2,047,000 below the estimate. Therefore they were actiially in a. better position than thev expected to the extent of £750,000.
