The ordinary meeting of the Rununga Borough Council was held in the Minors' Union Office, Rimanga, on Thursday, September 27th. ins Worship the Mayor (Mr. H. Coppersmith) was in the chair,'and the councillors present were Messrs Chirk, Baddeley, Boanas, Murphy, and Morris. CORRESPONDENCE. From W. Robsoh, asking permission to form crossing into motor ,vhod. Cr. M"rris moved and Cr. Baddeley seconded that, permission, bo, granted, subject to'the work being carried out to. the satisfaction of the Town Clerk.
Carried. From Mr. A. Inuetf, asking for reduction of rate* owing to house being empty l'op the. most part of a year. The Mayor moved and Cr. Baddeley seconded that the Clerk write to Sir. limes for further particulars and report to next meeting. From Green Island Council, forwarding copy of resolution protesting against any employee, unmarried and without dependents, receiving £l5O per annum or more or married em-
i.loyee receiving £220 per annum or more, receiving a war bonus, and that no special grants be paid to any official during the war. It-. Baddeley moved and Cr. Clark seconded that' the letter be received no action to be taken. From Grey Hospital i\Hu\ Charitable Aid Hoard, asking the. Council to appoint delegates to attend a meeting of representatives of local bodies in repaid to proposed erection of Old Men's Home. The Clerk stated that he attended the meeting under instructions from the Mayor ■ and gave a brief outline of business' transacted. Cr. Baddeley moved and Cr. Morris, r.'C'onded, that we receive the report of the Town Clerk, and agree to do all we can to assist in the erection of a home for aged people, and that the Vuvor represent this Council on Board meetings. -Carried. From Hon. G. W. Russell, forwarding memorandum asking the Council's co-operation in setting aside October 7th as a national clay of prayer in connection with the war. Cr. Morris moved and Cr. Clark seconded that the memorandum bo received and no action taken. —Carried.

Martin, secretary of the Municipal Association ot" New Zealand, regretting having overlooked a letter from the Council on May L'l'nd last, and forwarding opinions as to Municipal Association. —Received. The Clerk reported on drains and rendition of outhouses, as instructed from last, meeting; also the advisabflilv of making representation to the Government for a grant on account of eight houses owned by the Government and let to tenants. The Government, jiefused liability to pa} 7 rates. The Mayor moved and Cr. Baddeley seconded that the Town Clerk's report be received as satisfactory, and Hiss I the Clerk make representations to the Government for a grant to compensate for rates, and that Mr. V. C. Webb M.P., be also written to on the matter.—Carried.
