RUSSIA WITHIN.

PEASANTS’ CONFERENCE.

AN IMPORTANT GATHERING

[Australian a,ml N.Z. Cable Association.]

Received this day at 0.45 a.in. ‘ ODESSA, May 2,

A groat mass meeting of peasants is announced' to assemble here at the end of May. It will probably be of immense importance to Russia’s future, as the peasants constitute three-fourths of the Russian nation, and furnish at least BO per cent, of the troops. Russia's fate lies largely in their hands, but they are still unorganised and unconscious of their

power. The land question is the most prominent topic of discussion. Agitators demand the confiscation of all land, and lire agitation threatens to divide the peasants themselves in a struggle for possession.
