CHRISTCHURCH This Day.—At the Police Court, William James Clegg was charged with making a seditious utterance i<n a restaurant in respect to German submarines. The Magistrate held the evidence to be inconclusive and dismissed the case. FRUITGROWERS' FEDERATION. DUNEDIN, This Day;—The National Patriotic Apple Show is being held here. The New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation began their annual conference to-day. The. annual report said that the Federation, which was established in August of last year, now consisted of 27 Associations. FATAL ACCIDENT. WELLINGTON, April 30.—A soldier named Andrew McLean met with a fatal accident late on Saturday night, through falling off a troop train between Ngahauraliga, .and Per tone. When the train was approaching the latter place, the deceased accidentally fell off. His body was picked up and taken to Trentham. McLean was a member of the 26th Reinforcements,. He was married, and his widow lives at Kaikorai. Dunedin. ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES. AUCKLAND, April 30.—Douglas Surtees, aged four years, died at the hospital as the result of injuries sustained by a tram-car running over his leg. A man named Frank Rhodes was jammed by a truck at the Westfield manure works to-day, and died from his injuries. Lillie Booth, 36, was found dead in a house where- she was employed a& a domestic. She was lying on the floor with a coat over her head and tubing from a gas connection near her face. She left a note saying that two persons (whom she mentioned) were responsible for her contemplated act-
