OBITUARY

REV. C. PEXXEY. REEFTON

We regret to learn of the sudden death of tlie Rev. Charles Penney, Methodist minister at Reefton, which took place on Satin day afternoon, at the age of 66. From information received, we learn that the rev. nrentleman proceeded fronr his home to Black's Point on a motor bicycle, to pay a call on one of his parishioneis who had not been in good health for some time. Arriving at the house of Mr William Penrose, he remarked that the motor bicycle had shaken him np a little and seated himself in a chair, when he immediately collapsed, became unconscious, and in a, lew minutes passed away. The Rev. Mr Peruey was a native of Corn wall. Ruglaiid, and arrived in New Zealand about, forty years ago as a minister of tlie United' Fee Methodist denomination, and was in charge of the Reefton Church from 181'3 to 1837. On the union of the churches taking place some years ago, Mr Penney continued his ministry under the Methodist Churches in various parts of New Zealand. Three year;; ago he was appointed in charge of the. Reefton and Fihide's Point Churches. in which he labored most faithfully up to the time of his death. Tie was "greatly loved by all with whom he came in contact. Mr Penney was twice married. His tatnily by his first wife are all grown up. Cue of his sous, John, enlisted in the eirlv part *f the war, and was killed at Oalljpyii. He leaves a widow and four cnildren (two sons and two young daughters!, one son residing in Blenheim and the other (Cyril) is a teacher in the Rv^iton High School, wit!) ail of whom much sympathy is felt, in the district. The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon,
