Lord Beauchamp, president of --£ conference of .seventy members of the House erf Commons and the House ot Lords, representing, the Parliamentary Free Trade Committee, and including Mr. K. McKenna and Mr. W r . Runeiman, discussed the Imperial prefer-
ence report. Ministers did not favor immediate action and advised the Free Traders not.to force the Houae of Commons.
Diacuising the report Mr. Runcimun said that events and not arguments would settle matters.
Hon. T. Lough said that he thought the Free Trade case was partly given away by the protective stepu already taken.
Sir T. P. Whittaker urged the preparation of counter proposals because a negative policy was hopeless. The conference decided to awtiit events-

He promised their return to Greece, via Monastir, but instead they were deported to Germany. General Hatzoppoulos, fearing t$W consequence;;, left the district.

The Germans, making an effort to prevent a rupture with China, unsuccessfully attempted to distribute substantial bribes, and offered to wipe out their financial claims.
