COBDIN SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING

The visual monthly meeting of the above Committee was held on Tuesday night last. Present: Messrs G- Sweetman (Chairman), Miller, Washer, Mclntyre, Woods, Harrison, and A. Gunn. The Headmaster submitted* his monthly report showing an" improvement in attei dance as compared with last quarter. Sundry requirements were also requested to be attended to. A donation, of 10s was received from Miss Wisdom, on behalf of the Sunday School, and a vote of thanks passed.

The Chairman reported having had an iisteiview with Mr. Martin (agricultural expertj re study of agricultural science, he (Mr. Martin) stating that if a quar-ter-acre section could be secured the Department would supply material to fence same, provided the Committee found the labor. The Chairman suggested the unformed road adjacent to Hamilton's Block be acquired. Mr Harrison moved that application be made to the County Council for the road in question (Newcastle Street, between Fox and Ward streets) for The purpose of school agriculture. This was seconded by Mr Mclntyre and carried. The Secretary-treasurer submitted the annual balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £4 7s.

The Secretary-Treasurer (Mr Miller) was congratulated updn the creditable state of the Committee's finances, and favourable mention made of the pains ho had taken in preparing the statement.

The question of holding a picnic this \ear created some discussion, but on ac-

count of the stress of war and the lateness of the season it was decided to forego the function this year. The Chairman, Messrs Mclntyre and Gunn were appointed tVconfer with the Headmaster upon a programme for th« coming year-
