SYDNEY, This Day.—The Stale prisons report for 191b' nhowa- a substantial falling oft' in the gaol entries and an increase in the, value of the work performed by prisoners. During the year, 9,999 persons were gaoled, a decrease of 929 compared with 1915. Of this number, 6,985 were convicted in the police courts, a decrease of 826 compared with last year. The report concludes: The decrease is attributable to the early closing of hotels.
