NELSON, Tliis Day. The. Nelson Education Board's mooting' was held yesterday. Miss Mary Wilkio Muckiti was appointed assistant domestic, instructress ai Westport and Keefton technical schools in dressmaking, needlework, and cookery
« subjects. Tho Takaka Comity Council granted the sum of £SO towards the formation of a technical school in (hut; district. A circular was received from the Napier Board forwarding 1 particulars of tlie prosecution of a parent for omitting' to send his child to woodwork and cookery classes established by the Board. The .Magistrate, in convicting the parent, decided to send the •truant officer to visit the schools on the West Coast and take, proceedings against parents who are not sending their children regularly to school. ,i The Reefton School Committee was. authorised to commence classes for book-keeping. The Board authorised the Committee to substitute a new fence and to use sawn timber instead of palings; also to invite tenders for painting the exterior of the teacher's residence. An application for a new school at Murray Creek was referred back for full particulars as to tho number of children of school age in the vicinity. The Railway'Department wrote declining to grant the Board a lease of a nacre of railway reserve at One Mile Creek, Inangahua Landing. The Chairman and Chief Inspector were instructed .to visit the district and consult with the parents as to the next best suitable site for the erection of a school. The Education Department wrote advising that the question of.a grant for the erection of a school at" Roiokohu must stand over till the site of the new school nt Inangahua Landing was definitely fixed. The" Board decided to invite applications for the position of male clerk "at the Board's office at a salarv of £l5O a year. i The Blackwater Committee was authorised, to accept the tender of AT Collins for fencing the school grounds, and the expenditure of £2o, being the balance of the Government grant, made for the erection of a school building for levelling the school ground. The election.of school committees, was fixed for Monday, 16th April next. The names of Misses Levestam, Mears-arid Dunn are to be sent to the Cape- Foulwind Committee, and Misses Saunders. and McIsamara to the Crouadun Committee. ■._ . The resignation of Miss McBeath. teacher at Inangaluia Landing school, and Miss Bishop, assistant at Crouadun school, were accepted. _V '
