Mrs William Gannon, of Runanga, ha., received advice that her brother, Rifleman David Mclntosh, a member of the wellknown South Westland family, had died of Wounds. Mr. W. McKenzie, in mak- . insr the presentation, referred to the recipient’s many good qualities, and said that, as a hard worker and a zealous officer, success for him in his new venture was assured. Other members of the staff also referred to Mr Boucher in eulogistic terms, and wished him every success in his new undertaking. Walton will represent tha Grevmonth Fire Brigade at the annual meeting of the Brigades’ Association, to be held at Brilclutha on March 12th. Foremen P. Deere and J. Kennedy, also of the Groyrnouth Brigade, will attend at Baldutha to receive their gold stars, representing 25 wears’ service as brigadesmen. In addition to the foremen named, Superintendent W. Ryan.' Firemen F. Smith. Thos. Clarke, J. Grogan and J. Walton hold gold stars, making seven medallists, out of a membership of twenty. This is a record the Grevmonth Brigade have reason to’be proud of, and one that will, take a lot of beatjng. Foreman P. Deere has been nominated for vice-presi-dency of the Association, the Presidency for the past vear having been ablv filled by Mr E. J. Scantlebury, of Reefton. John. McLenhau, storekeeper and farmer at Hukarere, died on Friday hast, after a long illness. The who was a native of Inverness, Scotland, was b'4 years of age, and had been indent on the West Coast for over half a century. In his early days he was gold mining in Victoria, Otago, and on the Const, arriving in these parts, via the Taramakan River route, in the ’sixliesr The deceased was. at one'time occupied as a waggoner between Grevmonth and Reefton in the days before the “iron horse” linked up the two towns. late .Mr' McLennan was well known and highly respected, and his many friends will regret to hear ofliis passing. He leaves a widow and family of six, three sons and three daughters. The sons are: Messrs George (Railway Department, Auckland), John (Ikamatua), and Allan (Hukarere), and the daughters Mesdanies David Ross.(Blackwater), S. Henderson (Hukarere), and one married daughter at Rcefiun. The funeral took place yesterday at Reefton, rand was largely attended, the burial service of the' Presbyterian Church being impressively conducted by the Rev. Mr‘Bowden. •
