GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB

MONTHLY MEETING.

An ordinary meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club was held at the Albion Hotel last evening, when the following attended: Messrs M. Hannan (Chairman j, J. AATilton, E. M. Sheedy, T. E. Coates, A. Blair, and E. J. Smith. An apology for absence was received from Air. W. R. Kettle. CORRESPONDENCE. James Blewman wrote stating that he had enlisted with the Eighteenth Reinforcements, and tendered his resignation as assistant starter to the Club.—Received. The President of the Racing Confer, cnee suggested that'a uniform hurdle, of a perpendicular height of from 3ft 4in to 3ft Gin, when set, be approved.—Received ami suggestion approved. The secretary of the Racing Conference advised amount of levy in connection with payment of stipendiary stewards’ expenses and donation to Sports Protect ion League.—Received and amount passed for payment. The secretary of the Racing Conference forwarded a copy of amended rules. One of the amendments provides that the riders of the first four horses 1 in each race must weigh in.—• Received, it being explained bv the Chairman that this had been the procedure with the Grey Club for some years.

'The Racing Conference forwarded a circular in regard to the taxation of racing clubs, stating that action was being taken with a view to having racing clubs exempted from paying income tax on profits under the Land and Income Assessment Act, as amended by the Finance Act, it being poitnt, cd out that practically the whole of the profits of racing clubs were devoted to Avar funds since the outbreak of the Avar.— -Received. f PERSONAL.

Mr. J. F. White tendered his resignation as a member of the Club. —• Received.

Messrs J. T. Petrie and Charles Bignell Avcre elected members of the Club. DISTRICT COMMITTEE. The District Committee met after the above meeting, the same members being present with addition of Messrs D, J. Evans (Hokitika) and B. P. McMahon (Reefton). LICENSES. The folloAving licenses Avere granted : Jockeys: Arictor Lee* and Charles Washy. Trainer: James Stewart (Coal Creek). The Nelson Jockey Club requested that J. AVilson and the home Whisperer be placed on the unpaid forfeit list.—Received and request granted.
