DIED FOR HIS COUNTRY

A BRAVE WEST COASTER,

Lieut. T. E. Sedclon, M.P., has sent the following letter, self-explanatory, to Mrs A. Whits, Stillwater:—

“France, “The Trenches, March 18th. 1916. “Lear Mrs White.—lt is with very deep regret I write you the circumstances of your son Tom’s death. Yesterday and the night before he had been sniping at a German snipev, when a hidden sniper to our left fired a fatal shot. Your son was killed outright and suffered no pain.. “I grieve to tell yon these facts, but thought it might be some source of satisfaction to you to know that in laying down his life for his country your son bore himself bravelv—almost too .bravely, and that he suffered no pain. He was absolutely fearless, and had he lived he ' would have been of great assistance to the platoon and company. He was'a remark-? ■ , ably good shot—very steady and very plucky. The news was a great shock tp your other son, who is also in ihy platoon, but he is very brave about it. Later on I may be able to write you some particulars about your son’s resting-place, but at present I may not—according to our instructions; —reveal any information abbtii localities or names, of localities. You "have my sympathy and the sympathy of ail , yovr son’s comrades in the platoon in your bereavement and in your sorrow. ’’
