APPEAL OF BELGIUM'S CHILDREN

On Monday evening, July 24th, tlie Greymonth Convent School children, aided very generously by McLean’s Picture Company, will give an entertainment at the Town Hall in aid of the poor Belgian children. As the object appeals to all classes, there is sure to be a crowded house on Monday night. The spoiler has ravaged their beautiful land, Her sons the fierce Prussian has slain; Her fatherless children arc friendless and poor, And sigh for their loved homes in vain.

But you in this country of plenty and

peace, Uucrushcd by the conqueror’s heel, For love of the children you treasure so

dear. Oh! List to the Belgians’ appeal

The children are driven away from their homes, And plundered of all they held dear. Poor, starving and homeless, they sadly deplore * The loss of the land they revere. /

The hardest of feelings in pity must melt, Beholding their pitiful plight. In chivalry’s interests their fathers have died For right against tyrannous might.

Their children are now the sole hope of

the land, Her future depends on their weal. Come, people of Greymouth, make haste to their aid, And show them the pity’ you feel.

Oh ! Hark to the cry of the mother’s and babes That rises from Belgium to-day. Oh! Give of your plenty, and give of your want, Your charity God will repay.
