WEST COAST MATTERS.
DEPUTATIONS TO THE MINISTERS (By Telegraph —Special to the Star) WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr. J. Griramond (Mayor of Ross), introduced by Mr. .T. E. Y. Sod-ion. M.P. to the Minister of Railways, urged a speedier service between Arthur's Pass and Christchurch. Mr. Seddon pointed out. the unnecessarily long delay at several stations, giving specific: instances personally noted. Mr. Hemes promised to inquire why the train was not running to Arthur's Pass, where the station was apparently in order; also to "speed it up" if possible when the new timetable was fixed. He would inquire into the request that, Tuesday's train from Greymouth to ITokitika connect with the Otira-Grey express.
The Prime Minister, interviewed regarding the royalties payable by the Crown' to the Westland County Council said that legal opinion was favourable to the Council's claim. Mr. Mas--sey promised to bring the matter before the Cabinet immediately. Mr. Seddon asked if the Government would send a representative to the unveiling of the pioneer memorial statue at Hokitika. Mr. that unfortunately at this time 01 the year no Mini set was able to get away, but he would endeavour to see the Government represented in some worthy manner. •
