BRISBANE, This Day.—Jane Nightingale, was charged with the murder of Emily Halburn, who was the victim of a fire in the Salvation Army Home at Taring:! on January 23rd. At the time of the fire, Miss Nightingale told a constable that she fired the home for revenge on the Ma Iron. The jury found the defendant to be insane at (he time cf the confession and therefore it was not acceptable as evidence against her. Defendant was discharged.
AUSTRALIAN NAVAL MATTERS. SYDNEY, This Day.—Mr. Millen states that the Commonwealth Government readily adopted the Imperial authorities'"suggestion to permit the Imperial warships on the New Zealand station to participate in the annual battle practice with the Australian Navy towards the end of the year. He added that the Australian Navy is essentially an Imperial fleet, ready to cooperate with other Imperial forces both in peace and war. Although tho Cabinet has not yet considered the New Zealand Government's request that tho Australian warships visit the Dominion Mr. Millen anticipates the Ministry will endorse the proposal.
