A GAME OF CHANCE
A SENSATIONAL ARREST. ST TELEGRAPH" I'iZZ PUESB. : «BfIOCt\Tt<MS. WELLINGTON, This Day. ' A policeman walked into the charmed circle of a close-packed crowd on the wharf yesterday morning, and arrested Joseph Belhaman, who appeared in the court a little later charged with participating in a game of chance. Tli<; police said that accused, who pleaded guilty, was not a member of a «ang of spielers who made a living at the fame (hazards). He did work for his living. The game, however, was becoming too common on the wharves and was developing into a nuisance. Counsel for accused said that his client was a man of good character, who. apparently looked on at the .game in an idle. moment, and had taken a hand in it. The Magistrate fined Belhaman 20s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment.
