TURKEY'S TROUBLES

AN IMPORTANT ARREST.

[FIB PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPTHIGHT.]

CONSTANTINOPLE, January 26.

Basri Bey, formerly an influential member of the Union of the Progress Party and later a member of the Opposition, has been arrested. He had in his possession alleged compromising correspondence relating to Mahoud and Shcvket's assassination.

He escaped the military police's escort and took refuge in the Dutch Legation. The police attempted to drag him out, and the Kavasses surrendered him under a misapprehension of the Consul's orders.

The Legation has now protested against the violation of the extra territoriality and diplomatic privileges.
