WESTLAND GOLDFIELD JUBILEE
; BIG PARTY OF DISTINGUISHED VISITORS, j It has been arranged that His Excellency and Lady Liverpool will arrive in Hokitika at 8.35 p.m. by special train on Tuesday, January 6th. The two aides accompanying their Excellencies will be Captain Eastwood and Captain Hutton. While in Hokitika Lord and Lady Liverpool will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. M. Haszard, at their residence, “Weavoe,” Hampton Street. The Hokitika Borough and Westland County Councils will join in a joint official welcome to His Excellency the Governor. The Mayor, County Chairman, and members of the local bodies will meet His Excellency on arrival at the railway station, and a public welcome will be tendered the Governor the following morning, when a loyal address will be presented in front of the Government building, prior to the procession moving to Cass Square for the Jubilee celebration. The Hon. W. Fraser, Minister for Public Works and Mines, will be Minister in attendance upon His Excellency. Among the Parliamentary representatives to visit Hokitika will be Messrs Malcolm (Chairman of Committee), AtStatham, Colvin, Veitch, Seddmi. Vigor Brown, Anderson, Scctt, and others Sir John and Lady Findlay are also expected to bn among the visitors to Hokitika, which was the home of Sir John’s youth. The whole of the members of the Inrngahua County Council will visit Hokitika for the Jubilee, The heads of most of the local bodies in the north are also expected to bu present, i Several arches will be erected in Rovell Street for Jubilee time. Two will be erected by the Borough Council, and two bv the C.'ountv Council. Possibly tbo Harbour Board wii erect an arch on the Quay, along which the procession will pass. Several citizens also intend to go in for individual decorations.
Superintendent Bnwlclon lins completed arrangements for the fireworks display at Hokitika on January 10th. It will be an extension of the nsnal New Year display, but will be bold earlier in the evening, and late trains will return to Ross and Oreymouth after the display. The Defence forces will parade in connection with the Jubilee, and it is probable that the local company will form a guard of honour to His Excellency.
