John Smith, aged 35 years, residing at lie Papaya, cut his throat with a razor and died before the doctor arrived. He arrived from England a year ago and was despondent over business troubles. Ho leaves a wife and two children. William O'Brien, a waterside worker, when leaving the steamer Mirehana, was struck on the head by a beam and fell into' the hold. He was removed to the hospital, where he died. He wa.<* a married man, 60 years of age. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
News has been received by the police of the sudden death of Miss Strong Cameron a resident of StaveJy, near Methven. The local doctor was unable to give a certificate of death.
SYDNEY, This Day
A schoolmaster named Arthur Ratten and a girl named Verlie Jackson, aged 13 years, who resided with Mr. Ratten and* his wife at Kensington, were killed through being buried in a fall of sand at Sandhills, while getting sand for the garden. ,
THAMES, Oct. 26.
Edward Beale, aged 52 years, a married man, was killed by a fall of earth in the Tairua district. Deceased, who was engaged on an excavation contract; was completely buried and was dead when extricated.
The boy named Martin, injured in a collision "between motor-cycle and a. cart, still lies in a critical condition, and his chance of recover.? is slight.
