THE SUN. The sun sets to-day at 4.46 p.m., and rises at 7.25 a.m. to-morrow. THE MOON. The moon rises at 7.38 p.m. to-day and sots at. 9.21 a.m. to-morrow.

LOCAL REPORT,

The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 59 degrees, and the minimum for the night was 44 degrees. At nine o'clock to-day the thermometer registered 45 degrees and the barometer registered 29.20 degrees. For the six months ending June 30th, the rainfall in Greymouth totalled 50.12 in, rain having fallen on 95 days. During the 48 hours ending at 9 n.m. to-day the rainfall was l.lOiir, making a total of 6.53 in for sixteen days this month. WEATHER REPORTS WESTPORT—Wind, west south west ; moderate gale; barometer, 29.15; thermometer 43; tides pood, bar, considerablesea. GREYMOUTH. —Wind, east, light, barometer, 29.20; thermometer 47; tides good ; bar, heavy sea ; river in strong fresh. WEATHER FORECAST. The Ret. D. 0. Bates wired at noon to-day as follows: — The indications are for a southerly heavy gale. A storm appears to he approaching from the south. Heavy showers with sleet and hail at times. Rain probable and snow on the high country, with rivers in flood. The weather will probably become very cold. Barometer rising fast soon. Sea increasing and heavy on the coast. Tides good.
