HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID

MONTHLY MEETI&C4,

The monthly meeting of the Grfaf Hospitaland Charitable Aid Board was held this afternoon. Present: Messrs Mi Hannan (chair). G. E. Perkins, R. C. Forsyth, J. Finn, J. Creagh and J. Gieseking. Mr. Hannan congratulated the »eW members on their election. Since lafet meeting tile Board had been reduced to eight, viz., Grey Borough 3, Grey County 4, Boroughs of Br tinner and Runanga 1. He was pleased to nay that during the past, the members hart worked together for the benefit of the whole district, and he trusted the same good feeling would continue. He concluded by welcoming the old members, also the new ones.

Messrs Forsyth, Gieseking, Perkins, Creagh and Finn thanked the. Chairman for his kind remarks, all expressing the wish that the same harmonious feeling would continue. CORRESPONDENCE. •

The Inspector General of Hospitals intimated that a despatch had been received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, stating that the sub. committee of the National Association for the Prevention of Infant Mortality and for lite Welfare of Infancy would welcome offers from experts of suitable papers bearing oil the subject.—Received.

The District Health Officer forwarded a copy of his Department's amended regulations for the prevention of rats landing from ships—Received. The' Returning Officer (Mr. F. H. Denton) notified the election of Messrs ,]. Gieseking, R, C. Forsyth and G. E. Perkins as representatives of the Borough of Greymouth on the Board. —Received.

Miss Kitto .Matron of the Grey Hospital, wrote thanking the Board fro increasing her salary.—Received. MEDICAL HEALTH OFFICER,

Dr Morice's monthly report was as follows:—Admitted to Hospital during April 33 (26 males, 7 females); discharged 27 (23 males, 4 females); died 3 (males); remaining at end of month 63 (51 males and 12 females). Total number treated 93 (77 males, 16 females). Total number of days in hospital 1927 (country patients 1167, Brnnner 108, Greymouth Borough 555. other districts 96.) Average number of days per patient 20.7; average number of patients per day 64-2. Number of anaesthetics administered 10. —Received.

A resident of Rapahoe applied for relief, stating that she had no means of support. The Inspector reported unfavorably of this application. The applicant had only; been in this district since September last, coming from Kailangata. She had left Dunollis in 1908. Several of the members were of the opinion that some assistance; should be given. The Medical Superintendent stated if the applicant applied to the Hospital he would admit her. *

It was moved by the Chairman' and seconded by Mr Geiseking, that this Board adheres to its previous resolution. An •amendment, was moved by Mr Creagh, seconded by Mr Finn, that temporary relief be granted at the rate of 20s per month The Chairman put the amendment, and declared it lost, and the original resolution was carried. The Inspector recommended the granting of an order for provisions to the value of 15s monthly to a woman living at Taylorville. It was moved by Mr Creagh, seconded by the Chairman, and carried, that an order for provisions be granted up to 20s per month.
