TO CHEAPEN CABLE RATES

Mr Milward, manager of the Pacific Cable Board, in commenting on Canada's recently announced contract with the Poulsen Wireless Company, foreshadowed a reduction in the cost of coded cables to London from 3s to 2s Bd, saving fourpence a word, though there is no information from the London office on the matter. If the wireless system is proved efficient and a benefit to the public, the Pacific Company will certainly make arrangements for the Poulsen Company to carry their messages to Australia. Whatever reduction in rates could be obtained will he passed on to the public. At the same time the Board looked upon wireless communication across the Atlantic as in a somewhat nebulous state. Something would have to be clone to make the system more reliable than at present, before it can generally be used for commercial and press purposes.
