ST. JOHN'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH GREYMOUTH
TRANSLATION OP REV. R. STEWART
A congregational meeting of the above congregation was held at the close of the evening service last evening for the purpose of dealing with matters relating to the translation of the. Rev. R. Stewart, minister, to St. Paul's Church, Kaiapoi. Mr Stewart stated that he had received, through the Christchurch Presbytery, a call from St. Paul's, Kaiapoi, also"a covering letter from tho Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery, stating that the call was a unanimous one.
Mr Stewart stated his intention of accepting same when placed in his hands by the Westland Presbytery on the 17th September. Mr Tennent moved and .Mr Bevin seconded, that a commission consisting of Messrs Brown, McConchie and Tennent be appointed to appear before the Presbytery to represent this congregation.—Carried.
Mr Tennent moved, and Mr Brown seconded, that the commission be instructed to offer no objection to Mr Stewart's acceptance of the call, and also to place on record there the congregation's appreciation of Mr Stewart's long and faithful ministry extending over twenty years.— Carried.
Mr Tennent moved, and Mr McConchie seconded and it was carried, that this congregation suggest to the Presbytery of Westland that the Rev. Mr Davie, Hokitika, be appointed Moderator of this congregation ad interim. The Rev. R. Stewart then retired and the Session conducted the meeting, when it was decided to hold a congregational meeting on Monday evening, 23rd inst., for the purpose of farewelling Mr and Mrs Stewart.
