SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE
GREYMOUTH BRANCH. Mr. M. Hannan (President), presided at a meeting of the Committee of the Greymouth branch of the Sports Protection League, held last evening. The following resolutions were carried : t (1) That the support of the League be given to any proposed legislation providing for the reasonable extension of the present number of racing days and to any proposal to allot such increased number of clays among the racing clubs by some definite tribunal such as the Dates Committee appointed by the Ncav Zealand Racing Conference. (2) That the support of the League bb given to any legislation to repeal the present prohibition against the publication of dividends paid on a race in New Zealand, or of the starting prices in respect of any race outside of New Zealand, so as to permit the publication, after the holding of a race, of the dividend paid, or of tho starting price. It Avas further resolved that a copy of the aboA - e resolutions, together with a petition signed by the President and Secretary of the Branch bo forAvardod to the Hon. Sir Arthur Guinness, member for the district, with a request that he use his influence in the best interests of the League, Mr. G. T. Grace (Secretary of the Greymouth Metropolitan Jockey | Club), was appointed Secretary of the local branch. It was reported that 1,500 people had been enrolled as members of the branch. SCULLING.
