METEOROLOGICAL
THE SUN. The sun sets to-day at 5.1 p.m. and rises to-morrow at 6.51 a.m. ' THE MOON. The moon sets to-day at 10.54 a.m. and rises to-morrow at 1.8 a.m. LOCAL REPORT. The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 52 degrees, and the minimum for the night was 36 .degrees. At nine o’clock this morning the temperature was 39-degrees, -and the barometer registered 29.90. The rainfall for the 24 hours ending nine o’clock was 0.04 inches. WEATHER REPORTS. Westport.—Wind, south, light | barometer, 29.84; thermometer, 40 degrees; tides poor ; bar smooth. Greymouth.—Wind, east, fresh breeze; barometer, 29.88; thermometer, 38 degrees ; tides moderate; bar moderate. WEATHER FORECAST. The Government Meteorologist lastevening telegraphed the following weather forecast: —"Small area of low pressure has passed in the northern districts, and the barometer has risen slightly. Westerly winds have predominated, but southerlies now prevail in the north and a south-east gale is reported at the East Cape this afternoon. Considerable rain has fallen on the East Coast of the North Island. Present indications are for a falling barometer in the southern districts and little movement at present in
the north. Winds will probably, go buck to westward, and increase in force specially southward of Westport and Kawhia, for the storm area appears to be approach-
ing from the westward. Cloudiness is probable generally, with rain falling over most parts of the country.” Rev. D. C. Bates (Dominion Meteorologist) wired at noon to-day as follows: ‘‘A storm area appears to be approaching from the westward. There are in-
ications for winds freshening northerly
heavy to gale. Expect unsettled and cloudy weather. Very heavy rain may be expected; rivers rising after 24 hours; glass fall; tides good and sen rough.”
