BOROUGH OF RUNANGA
ELECTION OF COUNCILLORS
The election of six Councillors for the newly-formed Borough of Runanga took place on Saturday, and resulted in the six nominees of the Labour Lnion being elected. Very little interest was evoked in the proceedings, the greatest surprise beimr in the large amount of support accorded to Mr Walker, who is hardly known in Runanga, and who stood on his own. The Labour Party issued a large and regressive policy, which it is hoped thev will be able to carry out. Mr Wylde, returning officer, announced the result as follows ;
Writes another correspondent: The newly-elected Mayor and Councillors have stem times ahead. The appointment of a permanent Town Clerk, the economising of borough funds, and the approaching of the Government regarding endowments and subsidies are all matters that will require careful attention and energetic deliberation. The Council is out with a platform which will need ability and enterprise to maintain.
