GREY BOROUGH COUNCIL.
SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of-the Greyinouth Borough Council, held yesterday afternoon, was attended by the Mayor, Crs. Kerr, Gresuslade, Perkins, Sweetman, Sheedv, Russell, Doogan and Byrne. TIMBER. Only one tender, that of Stratford and Blair, was received; The Engineer, in reply to a question, said that the prices were perfectly reasonable—in fact "cheaper than the Borough had been paying. On the motion of Cr. Sheedv, seconded by Cr. Sweetman, the tender of Stratford and Blair was accented. EARTHENWARE PIPES. Only one tender, that of Forsyth and McKay, was received. The Engineer said that the prices were slightly dearer than those formerly paid, but this was to be accounted for by a combine between the pipe makers in the North Island and those in the South, by which Nodth Island pipes were not to.be sold in the South Island and vice versa. The prices were perfectly reasonable. CEMENT. Two tenders were received : Forsyth and McKay .. £3 15 0 a ton Duncan McLean .. £3. 17 6 a ton The tender of Forsyth and McKay was accepted. IRONMONGERY". On the motion of Cr. Byrne, the schedule was adopted, and the lowest tender in each case accepted. PRINTING. Tenders for printing were received from Hie Greyinouth Evening Star Company, the Argus Company, and Ferguson and .Mitchell (Dunedin)., The last firm tendered for the forms only. The Town Clerk said that on the whthe tenders of the local firms compared very favourably with those of the lamedin firm. Cr Byrne said the local papers helped a great deal in reporting the borough meetings —although they reported him very badly—and they should be given the preference. Cr. Doogan proposed that the tenders of the two local papers be accepted. This was seconded by Cr. Sheedy and carried. DEPUTY MAYOR. The Mayor said that he was going away for a month or six weeks’ holiday, and he would like them to appoint someone to take his place. Cr. Kerr said that lie would move that Cr. Sweetman, who had topped the poll and was senior councillor, should he appointed. This was seconded by Cr Perkins and carried. Cr. Sweetman thanked the councillors for the honour they had done him. He was sure they would all assist him to cairy out his duties. He trusted that the Mavor would have an enjoyable holiday. Ti RAM AH A STREET. The Engineer said that as the Council were aware, the fences in Turamaha Street were in many cases encroaching on the footpath by some feet. There was a resolution on the books of the Council that no asphalting be done in that street until the fences were put back in position. Messrs Deere and McKay were at present re-building, and he thought the piesent was an opportune time for the fences to be put hack on the proper line. He would like the Council’s opinion. Cr. Russell moved that Messrs Deere and McKay be instructed to shift their fences back into the proper position. This was seconded by Cr Sweetman and carried.
