LONDON, December B.—Lord Morley, in replying to Lord Curzon, respecting Persia, said that the Imperial Government's policy was to maintain the Anglo-Russian Convention. She would mediate benevolently. If Britain and Russia kept together he believed that they would soon see a solution. Russia had no intention of supporting the Shah and Sir Edward Grey had warned her that it would be impossible for Britain in any circumstances to recognise him. THE HOUSING PROBLEM. LONDON, December B. Colonel Griffiths Boscowen has introduced the Unionist Social Reform Committees, Housing of Working'Classes Bill. It is proposed to clear, the slums and provide accommodation in town and country districts. The Treasury is to grant £IOO,OOO yearly to local authorities to aid the net cost of the authorities to aid the net cost of the authorities' operation which will be under the supervision of three housing commissioners one of whom will be a medical officer. NAVAL PRIZE BILL. LONDON, December 7.—The Naval Prize Bill was read the third time by 172 to 125. Mr Atherley Jones' amendment was negatived by 212 to 115! Mr Findlay, Sir Edward Grey and others re-discussed the conversion of merchantmen. Sir Edward declared that the bill did not pledge the country to ratify the declaration and if others hung back.we could do the same. •COAL FOR THE NAVY. LONDON, December 7.—The Admiralty has contracted for 250,000 tons of Welsh coal for 1912 at 16/6 per ton. This is above the rate charged in 1910. RECONSTRUCTION. LONDON, December B.—The reconiStruction scheme of the North BritishAustralasian Company proposes - to write down the capital by £11,721 and consolidate various issues into one stock.
