PERSONAL NOTES.
Mr T. Parata (jun.), of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Greymouth in connection with his candidature for the Southern Maori scat.
Mr Mirfin, of the Bank of New South Wales, has received word that he has V,een promoted to the Christchurch office., for which place he will leave on Wednesday morning.
Mr R. A. Home, manager of the Bres■'.nr Piano Company in Christchurch, is on a- visit to Greymouth, and dming his st.-.y is the guest of Mr and. Mrs G .T. Moss. '
Mr J. J. Heard, who was recently Presbyterian Home Missionary at Brunrierton, has arrived from the Home Country and has been appointed to the Presbyterian Church at Totara Flat. He will arrive by the Arahura on Monday. MiHeard was very successful at Brunnerton, and is certain to do good work in his new and important sphere Miss Skoglund, .who has been long engaged in the Greymouth State School, finds-it necessary for her health to take a prolonged holiday, last night applied io the School Committee for a month's holiday, to commence from the end of the Christmas vacation. The Committee very cordially granted it, so far as they were concerned, as they realised the value of her services. They, therefore, recommended the application to the Board, provided the Board supplies a relieving teacher.
Mrs Okey, mother of Mr. H. J. H. Okey, M.P., for Taranaki, died at New Plymouth yesterday, aged eight vtwo. She was born in Gloucestershire and resided in New Plymouth since 1857. Her husband predeceased her by two years. Deceased, during the Maori war, refused to obey the orders of the military authorities to leave with all the women for Nelson, hiding in the bush so as to stay with her husband. The authorities sent no women away afterwards. The deceased lady leaves four sons and two- daughters. Mr A. J. Okey, of this town, is a son.
