THB BUN. The sun sets t'o-day at 7.26 p.m.; rises to morrow at 4.16 a.m. THE MOON. The moon sets to-day at 3.43 a.m.; rises (o-morrow at 9.11 p.m. LOCAL &EPOST. The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 72 degrees, and the minimum for the night was 48 degrees. At nine oclock this morning the temperature was 53 degrees. The barometer registered 29.03. The rainfall for the 24 hours was 0.58 inches. WEATHER REPORTS. Greymouth. — Wind, west-south-west; moderate gale; barometer, 29.07; thermometer, 52 degrees; tides good; bar heavy. Westport.—Wind, west, moderate gale ; barometer, 28.90; thermometer, 53 degrees ; tides good; bar considerable. WEATHER FORECASTS.

Last evening the Dominion Meteorologist issued the following weather summary and forecast:—“Tire winds have backed by west, and decreased in. force generally; the weather lias improved to-day in most parts of the country. The barometer rose daring the night but has fallen this afternoon in the south. The present indication's are for mild and hazy weather, increasing in cloudiness, and rain following in most parts of the country, increasing northerly winds are probable generally, with a falling ba'-om '- ter everywhere.” Rev. If. C. Bates wired at noon as follows :

“Heavy westerly gale, expect unsettled and cloudy weather, rain 'probable, river flooded, glass fall (unsteady), tides high, sea very heavy on the coast.” STORM APPROACHING.

The Dominion Meteorologist advises heavy westerly gale with much rain proible generally. A telegram from Dunedin states that the barometer tending this morning was 28.30, the lowest tuning tire year.
