» ZEALAND HORSES FOR AUSTRALIA. From what I can learn, some alteration has been decided upon in respect to the team which will carry Messrs. W. G. and G. L. Stead’s colours in Australia next spring. It was origin-1 ally decided to include therein the two-] year-old colt Bon Reve (by Boniform out of Dreamer), but the youngster in question is, I understand, to remain at the Grasslea stables. The team, together with Mr. Greenwood’s horses, were to have lelt for Sydney, on Thursday last. The weights allotted to New Zealandowned horses in the principal Astralian spring handicaps are now published and it would seem that our representatives have been rather more favorably dealt with than usual. Los Angelos is unquestionably the best performed liorse now in training in the Dominion, and his owner cannot complain about bis being assessed to bo within 91b. of Trafalgar over the Melbourne Cup course. Most people, however, will prefer his chance in the Caulfield Cup for lie lias quite enough brilliancy to enable him to gain a good position during the early stages of a race such as this and lie can run twelve furlongs right out. Lady Lucy, on the other hand, is a slow beginner, and the probabilities are she would never be given the opportunity to get through a Caulfield Cup field. Her chance in the Flemington event cannot be disregarded, however, and if she should strip really fit she will keep the best of the opposition busy. Formeden’s ability is still practically undermined, for through his contracting influenza lie was not seen at his best as a two-year-old and this season he has not raced. In getting off with 211 b. less than w.f.a. Boniform’s own brother may be considered exceptionally lucky. Judging by their displays in this country Lady Medallist holds Bridge quite safe in the Caulfield Cup and Metropolitan Handicap.
