BLACKBALL SCHOOL COMMITTEE

[Omt OWN COURESi’ONHENT.I The above committee hold their usual monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 31. Present:' Messrs C. (chair), H. Chilton /secretary), R. Duncan, Jas. Reid, T. Sneddon, H. Robinson and W. McDonald.

The headmaster reported as follows “I beg to inform you that school work for the four-weekly period ending May 26th is proceeding satisfactorily. The attendance lias averaged 172, from an average roll number of 201 pupils. Six pupils were admitted and four left. One dray load of slack was delivered by Messrs Smith and Co. on the 9th instant and another load on the 23rd inst. On the 24th dust. (Empire Day) after the playtime, . the children were given special lessons on “Empire Day,” and at 3.10 they were all assembled in one room. The National Anthem was then sung, and after saluting the flag, the children were dismissed for the day. I am sorry to inform you that Miss Rogers, second assistant, owing to domestic reasons, has resigned her position. The resignation please find herewith.” The report was adopted, and Hie resignation of Miss Rogers received with regret. It was unanimously resolved to record on ’ the minute-book a hearty and sincere vote of thanks jo Miss Rogers for her energetic and zealous discharge of her duties and to wish her future prosperity. It was resolved to forward with the resignation to the. Education Board a recommendation that the Board promote Miss Dempsey to the nosition of second assistant, anil call apnlications for the positiu of third assistant. Nine applications for position of caretaker were dealt with when Mrs Kernick was the successful applicant. A great deal of routine 'business was fully dealt with, after which the meeting terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the chair.
